Cribrarula gaskoinii (Reeve 1846)
(Gastropoda: Cypraeidae)
Among the specimens of Cribrarula gaskoinii (Reeve 1846) in my collection is an interesting specimen from the Kwajalein Atoll labeled sp. cf. gaskoinii. In the picture below I am comparing it to 3 specimens of C. gaskoinii (2 "males" and one "female") from Hawaii. The shell from Kwajalein has not yet developed fully mature callous on the base or margins, and is most similar to the 18.3 mm specimen from Hawaii. However, in my opinion the Kwajalein specimen appears to be a rather typical example of the "male" form of the Hawaiian C. gaskoinii. I propose that perhaps military ships may have carried veligers or even adult individuals from the ports of Hawaii to the ports of Kwajalein. I am not suggesting that any viable populations have been established in Kwajalein (perhaps?) but instead, some individual shells may have made the trip.
